What is Pulse Pressure

120/80 mmHg.

The number on the left is the maximum pressure your heart exerts while beating called systolic pressure, while the right is the amount of pressure in your arteries between beats, your diastolic pressure.

Before train anyone,I make sure I know some of their vital values. Many parameter can't be evaluate bedside or seen with naked eyes but many signs ,symptoms and values will correlate with a problem.

The numeric difference between systolic and diastolic blood pressure is called pulse pressure. For example, if your resting blood pressure is 120/80 mm Hg, your pulse pressure is 40.

Increase in BP with age is mostly related to large artery stiffness .Observations suggested that a high salt diet may induce changes in the vascular smooth muscle cells resulting in collagen accumulation in the large artery walls and consequent increased arterial stiffness.

Stroke and heart diseases are the major causes of death in people over 65 years of age. The most common treatable risk factor is hypertension. Hypertension treatment can prevent stroke and its recurrence, significantly reducing risk.

Greater pulse pressure can be a useful predictor of heart attacks or other cardiovascular disease.

A low pulse pressure (less than 40) may indicate poor heart function. A higher pulse pressure more than 60 may reflect leaky heart valves.

The greater your pulse pressure, the stiffer and more damaged the vessels are thought to be.

Other conditions including severe iron deficiency anemia and an overactive thyroid can increase pulse pressure as well.

Training someone with a thyroid or hormonal problem will be a waste of time and money for both.Without treating the root cause, the latter's result can never be achieve in a normal way.

Next time, when you know your BP,do your math and have an idea of your health.
